Frames of Black Identity: Black Masculinity Unveiled Through The Lens
The portrayal of Black masculinity through photography is an intricate and multifaceted art, showcasing the rich and diverse experiences of Black men. This project seeks to challenge preconceived notions and stereotypes by exploring a narrative that delves deeply into social issues, while subverting our understanding of Black masculinity as being emotionally complex, yet firm. By doing so, we aim to inspire a new perspective that fosters vulnerability, connection, and a deeper understanding of the complexities of Black masculinity.

Black masculinity has been shaped by factors such as colonialism, and system oppression, which have often imposed restrictive and harmful stereotypes on Black men. These stereotypes may include perceptions of Black men as hypermasculine, aggressive, violent, or lacking in emotional vulnerability. However, it is crucial to challenge these stereotypes and recognise the diversity and complexity of Black male experiences.
